ShopR – Social Shopping

logo150Social shopping sounds like it could be really useful. If someone were to ask me if I thought being able to easily organize shopping lists for events, parties or even amongst families then I’d say yes. But I’ve yet to see any decent execution of the concept. ShopR aims to let users collaborate with friends when shopping. My gripe is that I found it difficult to get stuck in straight away, I didn’t want to have to register to start creating a list and I was unclear initially whether ShopR allows users to add any product online, or just from products on their site.

A good move might be to add Facebook Connect functionality, which would solve the registration problem as a lot of users already have a Facebook account, a Facebook app would also add an easy way to get friends involved with your collaborative shopping effort. As the main issue I had with the site was that it wasn’t easy enough for me to instantly get stuck in. The concept definitely has legs, it remains to be seen if ShopR can pull in enough users.

ecoder – Open-source online editing made easy

Logo With the popularity of open-source software growing every day, many open-source editors have hit the market. But they are usually downloadable and need to be installed locally. ECoder is a little different (well to be honest, it can be downloaded too).

With ecoder you have the editor embedded right in your web browser. There are no special requirements for the GUI editor. No registration is required and you are presented with a clean interface where you can code in many languages and check the syntax. Documents can be saved online using the directory space provided.

The website is in beta and will surely be a useful resource for that quick editing checks programmers can make from anywhere.

Qajack – Q & A Videos

Logo Have you ever wondered why the q & a sites on the internet look a little boring? The reason I think of is the absence of reality. A face to face interaction like you would in real life. So when we were reviewing Qajack, we were impressed by the idea.

The site allows you to post questions and answers using short video clips uploaded to the website. This way your emotions and gestures play a vital role in telling others about your sincerity in asking a question and gives the whole exercise a real life look. You can earn “jacks dollars” which is the site’s currency. The more jacks you have, the higher your rating and the higher your respect. A nice twist on the Q&A niche.

Farkie – Another YouTube downloader?

Another site with the usual “Put YouTube URL in an edit box and download the video in a format of your choice”. So why write about it?

Well to start, the site offers numerous options for video conversion. You can choose between MP3, AVI, WMV, WAV, MOV, FLV formats.

The site is extremely fast. I downloaded a 6 minute video in mp3 format in approximately half a minute.

From what it looks like, the site will eventually move towards a social networking site which allows you to download videos. Right now the site is in beta and still the members can contact each other via messages and view each other profiles.

And one more thing, the website allows you to download images, objects and other useful stuff.

Zajet – What are you sharing today?

Logo I recently had to share some documents with friends. The problem was that the online sharing websites had little to offer with what we had to do and that was sharing/blogging/editing/versioning at the same time.  And then I found zajet.com, which made the whole thing simple and fun.

This website allows you to share almost anything you want (the file size is limited though, only 2 MB per file which is really a shame; make it at least 5 guys!). You are given your own page when you sign up and then in that page you can blog/post articles/share files etc. A nifty little feature is that your own widgets can be added to your page.

Parkr – Amusement Park Reviews

Logo A useful site allowing you to view parks around the world, read reviews about them posted by people and helping you decide whether a park would be a good place to visit with your family or friends.

The main page displays a Google map which you can use to pin a location that you have visited and write a review about. The usual search options for parks around the world are also available.

The web site is in beta. Check it out and submit your suggestions so that they can improve the service.

Famous Tweeters – Celebrity Tweeters

Logo So you want to find out whether the celebrity you love tweets or not? You want not only their current but all the past tweets they have posted. Well head over to famoustweeters.com.

The site keeps track of stars, sports personalities, politicians and well known figures who tweet. The interface is extremely easy and fun to use. Check if your star is listed and clicking on the name will get you their messages. And if you have a Tweeter account you can even post replies to them.

Refactory – Opensource Coding Wiki

Logo With so many things going on to wikis these days, it is not surprising to see programming done wikistyle. Refactory is a place for programmers, both novice and professional, to share code snippets with the community.

This community driven service is free. The code snippets can be searched using tags or keywords. Improvements can be made by registered users so the content is protected from spammers. If open source is your preference, contribute your code to this web site and do your bit for the programming community.
