Tumblr Loses Creative Director Jacob Bijani
Twelve days after being acquired by Yahoo, the blogging platform loses its fifth employee. Is this the end?
Little more than a week after Yahoo announced its $1.1 billion purchase of Tumblr, the creative director is leaving the company.
“There’s still a lot more I want to accomplish, and I’m really excited about this next chapter,” Jacob Bijani wrote on his personal Tumblr account Friday. “For now, I’m going to take some time off to digest the last few years. I have about a dozen different projects planned, so expect more from me soon.”
Bijani’s farewell and Yahoo’s controversial acquisition history have done little to alleviate fears about the fate of Tumblr’s founding team.
In 2011, Matt Linderman wrote a scathing critique of Yahoo’s playbook citing the talent firesale of Flickr, which it acquired in 2005, and Delicious, a web-organization tool that has since gathered dust.
Since joining as CEO last year, Mayer has acquired nearly a dozen companies including online video site Dailymotion and Jybe, founded by former Yahoos.
To Mayer’s mind, she’s hired everyone she wanted.
“As I’ve said before, companies are all about people,” she wrote in a press release. “I’ve long held the view that in all things art and design, you can feel the spirit and demeanor of those who create them.”
