‘Lean In’ Headed to the Big Screen

You’ve read the book about the mini movement Sheryl Sandberg started. Will you watch the movie?

Well, that was fast. Lean In is headed for the big screen. But it looks like it will be missing something fairly crucial.

Deadline reported today that Sony Pictures has bought the film rights to the the Facebook COO’s critically acclaimed book, and even lined up Nell Scovell, a seasoned TV writer and Lean In ghostwriter, to pen the script.

But here’s the weird part. The movie won’t have anything to do with arguably the most compelling part of this whole Lean In phenomenon: Sandberg herself.

It reportedly won’t be a biopic of Sandberg. According to Deadline, Scovell will write a unique narrative that highlights themes from the book, which covers, among other things, how women can battle the corporate boys’ club.

The news is also interesting considering that Sony Pictures produced the immensely popular film The Social Network, which chronicled the rise of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Lean In, which hit shelves last year, quickly became a hot topic–and mini-movement–among women in corporate America. For some in the entrepreneurial community, the book highlighted a need for women founders to not only be more aggressive in day-to-day management, but to not shy away from launching big-idea startups.
